1/2 C all purpose flour
1 C water (or milk), or as needed
1/2 C meat drippings
salt & pepper to taste
Add water to drippings to make about 1 1/2 C of liquid.
Whisk water into flour until it is thick, but not pasty. Whisk the flour / water mixture into drippings & put over medium heat. Stir constantly until mixture is thickened & bubbly.
