Bavarian Red Cabbage

Ingredients

1 pound red cabbage
3 tablespoons butter
1 large onion, minced
1 large tart apples, peeled and sliced
1 cup hot water
1/2 cup vinegar
2 tablespoons brown sugar
5 whole cloves
1 teaspoon salt


Shred cabbage. Melt butter in a large saucepan. Add onion; cook slowly until soft and yellow.



Add cabbage and remaining ingredients. Toss together. Cover; cook just until cabbage is wilted. Uncover; cook 20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
