Why I Love This Recipe

Another family recipe

Another memory I have of something that Bertha prepared was sugar cookies every time Peter came to visit. There was always a pecan in the center and the first thing Peter did was to remove the pecan. When Bertha asked him why he did this he replied that pecans just were not good for him. He has since learned to appreciate the finer things in life.

Ingredients You'll Need

1/2 cup shortening
1 cup sugar
2 cups flour
2 eggs well beaten
4 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 teaspoon lemon juice

Directions

Chill, roll in 1/2 inch thickness, cut with cookie cutter, sprinkle with sugar if desired, press a pecan half in middle of cookie and bake at 400 degrees 8 to 10 minutes.
