Black Forest Cake
1 Prepared Devil's Food cake, in 2 9" rounds
Can of cherry pie filling
1 tsp Almond Extract
1 1/2 c whipped topping
1 c milk (whole works best)
1 french vanilla pudding mix
toasted slivered almonds
Mix almond extract in the cherry pie filling. Poke several holes in the bottom cake layer with a fork while still warm. Pour cherries over bottom layer, minding the edges. Place top layer on the top of the cherries.
Beat the milk and pudding mix together until blended. Add the whipped topping until you get a nice consistency, but not enough to make the frosting runny.
Frost the cake. It's nice if you pipe an edge on to hold the toppings in place.
Drain maraschino cherries and place them on top.
Press the almonds onto the sides of the cake.
