My husband, a Brit, demanded I learn to make something "normal." He was always going on about bread and butter pudding, so I decided I had better learn to make it. For me, it was an acquired taste- but I know many people love it. This is the best recipe I have come across, and it is the one I now stick to. Very easy!

  • 4 slices bread
  • margarine
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 1/2 c. milk
  • 4 Tbs. sugar
  • 1/4 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1/4 c. raisins

  • Preheat oven to 180 degrees C (about 350 degrees F)
  • Butter one side of the bread slices and cut them diagonally.
  • Arrange bread in two individual ramikens, overlapping/layering the bread
  • Sprinkle sugar and cinnamon over bread
  • Top with raisins
  • Beat the eggs lightly in a bowl, adding milk
  • Pour egg and milk mixture evenly over the bread
  • Put the ramikens into the preheated oven
  • Bake for 35 mins or till top is golden
  • Best served hot
