Why I Love This Recipe
When I was growing up in a small town 50 miles west of Mpls. MN, there were 2 daily papers. The morning paper was the Mpls. Tribune and the evening paper was the Mpls. Star. I know this recipe came from one of them. I just don't know which one. At least one family member always makes these at Christmas! It's one of those "comfort food" things, I guess!LOL
Ingredients You'll Need
1 c. butter,softened, no substitutes
1 (3 oz.) pkg. cream cheese, softened
1 c. sugar
1 egg yolk
1 tsp. vanilla
2 1/4 c. sifted flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. baking powder
Cream together butter & cream cheese. Gradually add sugar & beat until light & fluffy. Beat in egg yolk & vanilla. Sift together flour,salt & baking powder. Gradually add to creamed mixture. With cookie press, form cookies on ungreased baking sheets. Bake 12 - 15 minutes in moderate oven.
Before baking, dough may be tinted different colors & sprinkled with colored sugar or a mixture of sugar & cinnamon. Cookies may also be decorated with tinted frosting after baking.
