This has been a favorite recipe in our family since the early 1960's. Several years ago when I was sick and craving buttermilk pie, my husband, who had never made a pie in his life, made one for me. His turned out great!


  • 1 1/3 cups sugar
  • 3 tbsp flour
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 1/2 cup butter, melted
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 2 tsp vanilla flavoring
  • 1 tsp lemon flavoring.
  • Deep dish pie shell


  • Combine sugar and flour.
  • Add eggs to sugar/flour mixture.
  • Add malted margarine and buttermilk.
  • Fold in flavorings. Pour into chilled unbaked pie shell.
  • Preheat oven and bake at 425 degrees for 10 minutes. Reduce temperature to 350 degrees and bake 35 minutes longer without opening the door.
