Serves 1 cake | Prep Time 10 - 15 minutes | Cook Time 6 - 10 minutes

Why I Love This Recipe

My family has never used another icing than the one my grandmother passed down to us. This icing will stay soft forever.


Ingredients You'll Need

4 tablespoons flour
1 cup milk
1/2 cup shortening
1/4 cup butter or margarine
1/2 teaspoon vanilla or other flavoring

Optional: You can add in other flavorings such as coco powder, peanut butter, orange, lemon and coconut, the choices go on ......


Directions

blend the flour and milk well


strain into a small pan to avoid any lumps


cook over medium heat until mixture is very thick


remove from heat and place plastic wrap on top of the mixture so it is in contact with the mixture


place in refrigerator until it is cold


to a mixing bowel, add


1/2 cup shortening


1/4 cup butter or margarine


1 cup sugar


beat on high until mixture is light and a bit fluffy


add cold milk mixture, vanilla or other flavors and any add ins peanut butter etc


beat on high until mixture is smooth and creamy
