CHICKEN AND DUMPLING CASSEROLE
Chicken and Dumpling Casserole
This is one of my Mom's recipes and it was so good I ask her to share. My husband doesn't care for peas, but will eat them in this meal.

INGREDIENTS
- 1/2 cup chopped onion
- 1/2 cup chopped celery
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/4 cup butter
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 teaspoons sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon dried basil
- 1/2 teaspoon pepper
- 4 cups chicken broth
- 1 package frozen green peas
- 4 cups cooked chicken, cubed
DIRECTIONS
Add onion, celery, garlic and butter in a Dutch oven sauce pan and cook veggies until tender. Add the flour, sugar, salt,dried basil and pepper, stirring to incorporate all together. Add the chicken broth and bring to a boil. Add peas and cook 5 minutes. Stir in cooked chicken to heat through; then pour into greased 9 x 13 pan. Meanwhile make the Dumplings.
