Why I Love This Recipe

Chocolate Cream Pie is another one of Karalee's recipes. It recently became one of my all time favorite deserts that she makes. I always ask her to bring some every time she leaves her bakery to come and see me.


Ingredients You'll Need

1 baked pie shell- pastry
1 1/2 cups of sugar
1/3 cup of cornstarch
1/2 tsp salt
3 cups of milk
4 egg yolks- slightly beaten
1 tbsp plus1 tsp vanilla
2 squares (1 oz each ) unsweetened chocolate cut up


Directions

Mix sugar, cornstarch and salt in a saucepan. Stir in milk and chocolate. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly until it thickens and boils. Boil and stir one minute. Stir half of hot mixture into the egg yolks. Blend back into mixture remaining in saucepan. Boil and stir one minute. Remove from heat. Stir in vanilla. Pour into pie shell-cover and chill for 2 hours before serving. Top with homemade whipped cream.
