Chocolate Surprise

This is one of the recipes my mom would bake up as we put up the Christmas tree, my dad would afterwards crack the nuts with an old little hammer, that we would need for the holiday season.

INGREDIENTS

  • Cooking Time: 8 minutes each batch
  • Servings: 2 dozen
  • Preparation Time: 15-20 minutes
  • 1/2 cup fat
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 3/4 cup flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup cocoa
  • 1/2 cup nuts, chopped (opt)
  • Marshmallows (large kind)
  • ICING:
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 2 cups powered sugar
  • 1/2 cup cocoa
  • 4-6 tablespoons hot (not boiling)

DIRECTIONS

Cream fat, sugar, eggs and vanilla together.


Add milk.


Sift dry ingredients together and then add to creamed mixture.


Add nuts.


Drop by teaspoonful onto cookie sheet.


Bake in pre-heated oven 375 degrees for 8 minutes.


Take out and place 1/2 marshmallow on top of each cookie.


Bake 4 minutes longer.


Cool and ice.



ICING: Mix all ingredients for the icing together and spread on cooled cookies.
