- 1 1/2 cup sugar
- 1/2 cup shortening
- 1/2 cup cocoa
- 2 eggs
- 1 cup very hot water
- 2 cups flour
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1 cup sour milk
- Preheat oven to 350.
- Mix all ingredients together in a large bowl.
- Mix well and pour into a greased cake pan and bake for 30 minutes or until the center springs back when lightly pressed.
- I have also added 2 tbsp cinnamon just for something different.
- sprinkle with powder sugar or frost with your favorite frosting. The best I have had is just fresh strawberries and raspberries mixed and poured over each piece.
NotesMy mother taught me how to make this when I was a little girl. It is probably the easiest cake to make.
