Chris C's world famous Jewel cookies
½ cup shortening (homogeneous mixture)
Slightly melted butter (heterogeneous mixture)
¼ cup sugar (Pure Substance C12H22011
½ teaspoon butter extract (homogeneous mixture)
½ teaspoon almond extract (homogeneous mixture)
¼ teaspoon salt (Pure Substance NaCl)
1¼ cup of flour (homogeneous mixture)
For the Icing
¾ cups of confectioners sugar (homogeneous mixture)
1 to ½ tablespoons water (pure substance H2O)
Roll dough into 1 ½ inches thick roll.
Cut into ¼ inch slices.
Place on aluminum foil lined cookie sheet.
Make dent in middle of each cookie.
Place preserve in hollow.
Bake in 400 degree oven for about 10-12 minutes.
Cool on cookie sheet.
Lace with icing.

My mom has made me and my sister and my dad this cookie recipe for 13 or more years because we would always make this cookie recipe on holidays, for example Thanksgiving and Christmas. CHEMISTRY INFORMATION: I list the Pure Substances and Mixtures down below. After you cook the cookies and take them out and put the final touch on them they become a Heterogeneous mixture, because if I did not put the final touch on them they would be Homogeneous, since I put it on it turns them into heterogeneous. Two Physical changes are when we add the jelly to the cookie, also when you cook it the cookie goes from cold to hot. Two Chemical changes are when we cook the cookies the cookies get bigger, in other words rise, another one is when the cookies turn to a color of golden brown.
