CHRISTMAS PUDDING

Ingredients

  • 1/4 C shortening
  • 1 C sugar
  • 3 C soft bread crumbs
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp mace
  • 1/4 tsp ground clove
  • 3 beaten eggs
  • 3/4 C scalded milk
  • 2 T chopped orange peel
  • 2 T chopped lemon peel
  • 1 1/2 C raisins
  • 1/4 C currants
  • 1/4 C chopped figs
  • 1/2 C nuts, chopped coarsely
  • 1/2 C grape juice

Directions

  • Cream shortening and sugar together.
  • Add bread crumbs, baking powder, salt and spices.
  • Add eggs and mix thoroughly.
  • Add rest of ingredients and beat thoroughly.
  • Fill greased pudding mold 3/4 full. Cover tightly and steam 4 hours.
  • Serve with orange or hard sauce. (I have both recipes if you want them.)
