This is the first pie in my pie a week challenge.

This is the standard apple pie recipe many people grew up with, my grandmother always added a pad of butter before putting her masterpiece in the oven.

On this particular one, I wanted to make the vent like the Apple logo because the Macs are taking over our house. I am aware I flipped it. :P

  • Crusts for a 9" pie
  • 6 apples (3 Granny Smith, 3 Macintosh, or mix up however you like)
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • Topping:
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 tsp sugar

  • Preheat oven to 350.
  • Prep your crust and pie pan, roll out top and cut vent.
  • Peel your apples, chop them up into bite size cubes (or whatever).
  • Toss apple pieces, lemon juice, cinnamon and brown sugar in bowl, pour into uncooked pie crust and top with butter.
  • Top with reserved crust.
  • Bake for 30 minutes. Whisk egg. Mix cinnamon and sugar together.
  • Remove pie from oven, use pastry brush to coat crust with egg and sprinkle with cinnamon-sugar.
  • Bake for 10 minutes more.
