This is another one of my moms recipes. No Christmas was complete without this sweet dessert. If you like rich, and I mean rich, this recipe is for you!


  • 1 c. white sugar
  • 1 1/2 c. all purpose flour
  • 1/2 c. milk
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 c. dates, pitted
  • 1/2 c. chopped pecans
  • 1 tsp. vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
  • 2 c. brown sugar, packed
  • 2 c. water
  • 5 T. butter


  • Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Grease baking pan. Combine sugar, flour, milk, salt, dates, nuts, vanilla and baking powder and mix well. Pour batter into prepared pan. In a sauce pan, over medium heat, combine brown sugar, water and butter and bring to a boil. Pour brown sugar mixture over batter. Bake for 30 to 35 minutes or until toothpick comes out clean. Serve warm with whipped cream.
