Di’s sugar cookies

This recipe came to me from my aunt Diane and I LOVE them:) This recipe is always a hit at our play dates:)

INGREDIENTS

  • ½ cup butter
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 egg- at room temperature
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla
  • 1/3 cup dairy sour cream
  • 2 cups sifted all purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon baking soda
  • ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg

DIRECTIONS

Cream together butter and sugar till fluffy. Beat in egg and vanilla. Stir in sour cream. Sift together flour, baking powder, salt, baking soda and nutmeg. Chill dough. On lightly floured surface, roll 1/8 to 1 inch thick. Cut in desired shapes with large cutters. Place on ungreased cookie sheet. Bake in 375 oven for 8 minutes. Cool slightly; remove from cookie sheet and cool on rack.


Frosting:


1/3 cup butter


4 cups sifted powdered sugar


1 cup milk


1 teaspoons vanilla


Milk


In a bowl beat butter till fluffy. Gradually add 2 cups of the powdered sugar, beating well. Slowly beat in the remaining sugar. Beat in additional milk, if needed, to make of spreading consistency. Tint with food coloring, if desired.

is this a thick frosting? or does it stay sticky? I'm looking for something that doesnt ooze al over the place.

I would not call the frosting thick, but it does not run all over the place:) You can also adjust it a bit by adding a little more or a little less milk. Good luck! Heather
