  • 1 pkg yeast
  • 1/4 cup warm water
  • 1 cup milk, scalded
  • 1/4 cup shortening
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 3/4 cup mashed potatoes
  • 2 eggs beaten
  • 5-6 cups flour


  • Dissolve yeast in warm water. Combine the milk, shortening, salt and sugar. Cool to luke warm. Stir in the yeast, potatoes and eggs. Gradually add enough flour to make a soft dough. Turn out on to a floured board and knead until smooth. Place in lightly greased bowl and turn to grease the top.
  • Cover and let rise 60-90 minutes in a warm place. Roll out to 1/2 inch thickness and cut with a 3" donut cutter. Cover and let rise for 30 minutes.
  • Heat oil to 375. Fry until brown on one side and turn to brown other side. Drain on paper towel. Glaze with the following while hot. 3 cup powdered sugar 1/2 cup water 1/2 tsp salt 1/2 tsp vanilla
