FRENCH ONION SOUP

Ingredients

  • 3 onions, sliced
  • 3 T. butter
  • 4 c. low-salt beef consomme
  • 1 tsp. Worcestershire sauce
  • French bread, toasted
  • Provolone cheese

Directions

  • Place onions and butter in a pot. Cover and cook over low heat, stirring occasionally, 30 minutes. Add consomme and Worcestershire sauce, heat to boiling. Reduce heat; cover and simmer 30 minutes. Place a slice of toasted bread in soup bowl; pour hot soup over toast; place a slice of cheese on toast and put in broil for 1 minute or until cheese is light brown and bubbly.
