"Amazing Garlic and Herb Croutons"
Serves 10+ | Prep Time 20 minutes | Cook Time 30 minutesWhy I Love This Recipe
I love salads, but salads never feel complete without croutons! Garlic and herb croutons just happen to be my favorite. If you happen to be short on money like me, this recipe actually makes about the same, or more, than you get for $3 at the store, and they taste AMAZING. If you get a loaf of Italian, or french bread, at Wal-Mart for a dollar, you are saving money that can be used elsewhere.
Ingredients You'll Need
1 15 oz Loaf Italian/French Bread
3 TBS Olive Oil/Vegetable Oil
1/4 Cup butter melted
2 TSP Garlic powder
1 1/2 TSP Salt
1/2 TSP Black Pepper
1/2 TSP Dried Oregano
1/2 TSP Dried Basil
Directions
1) Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Line a rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper or wax paper.
2) Slice the bread into cubes, add half of the bread cubes into a bowel. Set aside.
Combine olive oil, melted butter, and seasonings. Whisk well to combine. Drizzle half of the mixture over half of the bread cubes in the bowel. Toss to coat well. Transfer to prepared baking sheet. Repeat with the remaining bread cubes and butter mixture. Spread cubes into an even layer.
For those that are using a toaster oven, only mix half of the bread and butter mixture, put the first part on the baking sheet, and put it in the toaster oven. When the first tray of bread is almost done mix up the remaining bread cubes and butter mixture, put them on their own tray, covered with wax paper/parchment paper and put in as soon as the first batch of bread comes out.
Bake for 25-30 minutes, tossing every 10 minutes. Cook until crisp and lightly golden. Make sure to keep and eye on them so that they don't over cook!
5) Cool to room temperature. Store in an air tight container, or a gallon size zip lock bag with all air taken out.
