- 2 c. sifted Flour
- 2 t. Baking Soda
- 1 t. Cinnamon
- 1 t. ground Cloves
- 1 t. Ginger
- 1/4 t. Salt
- 1 1/3 c. Sugar
- 3/4 c. soft Crisco
- 1/4 c. Light Molasses
- 1 Egg
- Sift flour with soda, cinnamon, cloves, ginger and salt, set aside.
- In large bowl gradually add 1 c. sugar to shortening (using electric mixer). Cream til light and fluffy, about 5 min.
- Blend in molasses and egg. At low speed , beat in flour mixture just until well mixed.
- Refrigerate for 1 hour.
- Preheat oven to 375.
- Pinch off pieces of dough; shape into 1 1/4" balls. Roll in remaining sugar. Place 2 1/2 in. apart on cookie sheets; bake 8 - 10 min. or until golden brown.
