My mom got this recipe from my grandpa. It is the best pound cake I've ever had. We always play a game of "quietest in the kitchen" while it bakes, lol.


  • 1/2 pound of butter
  • 1 2/3 cups sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 5 eggs (separated)
  • 2 cups AP flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt


  • Cream butter and sugar.
  • Add egg yolks one at a time, beating well after each addition.
  • Add vanilla.
  • Sift flour and dry ingredients several times, add gradually and beat until smooth and fluffy. Fold in beaten egg whites.
  • Bake in tube pan in oven at 350 degrees for about an hour or until cake comes away from pan at the edges.
