Granny's Sugar Cookies

2 cups flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup butter, softened
1 cup sugar
1 large egg
1/2 teaspoon vanilla

Combine flour, baking powder and salt in bowl. Beat butter, sugar, egg and vanilla at medium high speed in mixer bowl until smooth. With mixer at low speed, gradually add dry ingredients just until blended. Gather dough intoa ball, divide into 4 disks. Wrap and refrigerate 4 hours until firm or overnight.

Heat oven to 350 degrees. Grease 2 large cookie sheets. On a lightly floured surface with floured rolling pin, roll one disk 1/8 inch thick. Cut out desured shapes with cookie cutters. Transfer to prepared cookie sheets. Bake 7-10 minutes until edges begin to turn golden. Transfer cookies to wire racks to cool. Repeat rolling and cutting remaining dough,, re-rolling scraps. Decorate as desired.
