Homemade Spicy Deviled Chicken Buns
Why I Love This Recipe
These homemade buns are soft, fluffy and delicious. This bun recipe is a family recipe and it is *Eggless*. You can fill these buns with any filling you want. I filled these buns with spicy deviled chicken.
Ingredients You'll Need
500g All-purpose flour
2 tsp Instant yeast
1 cup of Warm water
½ cup of Milk
30 g Unsalted butter
1 tsp Salt
1 tsp Sugar
1 Whole egg + 1 egg yolk beaten
*vegetarians – brush the buns with milk / cream*
Deviled Chicken Filling
1 Cooked chicken breast diced
2 Medium onions diced
1 Medium green bell pepper/ 3 Banana Peppers diced
1 Large tomato diced
1tsp Garlic paste
½ tsp Ginger paste
2-3 tbsp Tomato ketchup
1 tsp Red chili flakes
½ - 1 tsp Chili powder
½ tsp Salt
1 tsp Soy sauce
½ tsp Ground black pepper
1 tsp Corn flour mixed with 1 tsp water
1 tbsp Oil
Combine the flour, yeast, salt, sugar, butter in a large bowl.
Add the warm water and the milk to the flour mixture and knead it to form a soft dough.
Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead the dough for 10 minutes or until the dough springs back.
Put the dough into an oiled bowl and cover the bowl with cling wrap and leave it somewhere warm for 1 hour till the dough is doubled in size.
Punch the dough down, leave it to rest for 10 minutes
Divide the dough into 14 for large buns / into 18 for small buns
Press each ball with fingers to form 5-inch circle/ roll the dough into a 5-inch circle. Centre should be slightly thicker than the edges.
Put 1 tbsp of filling right in the middle. Bring the dough around it together and make a ball by pinching the edges together. Make sure you pinch the edges to seal well.
Put the buns on baking sheet lined with parchment and let it rise until double in bulk, about 40 minutes (depends on how warm the room is)
Meanwhile pre heat the oven to 200 C
Lightly beat the egg and the yolk together and brush it on top of the buns gently
Bake the buns till golden brown for 20- 25 minutes.
Heat the pan on medium heat with 1 tbsp of oil and add the diced chicken fry for 2 minutes
Next add the onion, garlic, ginger, bell pepper fry for 3 minutes
Add the diced tomato, salt and cook for 1 minute
Now add the chilli flakes, chilli powder, ground black pepper, soy sauce cook for another 2-3 minutes.
Add the tomato ketchup mix well and lastly add the corn flour mixture
Mix well and take off the fire
