INDIAN VEG. PULAO RICE WITH RAITA YOGHURT

Indian Veg. Pulao Rice with Raita yoghurt

This Rice dish I often serve as a main course with some Raita, yoghurt sauce

 


CATEGORIES

INGREDIENTS

  • Ca 1/2 us cup dried rice (Basmati is best)
  • pour them in a bowl and cover with cold water for a few minutes, rinse and cover again, drain.
  • Some veg. oil to fry in
  • 2 tsp Garam Masala (can be bought ready in asian markets e.g.)
  • 1 tsp Cumin seeds
  • some salt
  • 1/2 us cup frozen green peas
  • 1 potatoe raw, cut in small bites
  • 1 fresh tomato or one tin of whole peeled tomatoes with juice
  • Total 1 1/2 the volume of rice of water (when using Basmati rice). (less if canned tomatoes are used)
  • Raita:
  • 1 small jar of natural yoghurt
  • some salt
  • 1/2 tsp dried cilantro (koriander)
  • pinch of red chilli powder
  • mix together and let stand til rice is ready. Then add small cut cucumber and tomatoes and mix.
  • Serve with the rice. I double the Raita recipie as I really love it. Its a great healthy and dietary main dish

Here is what u need:


Ca 1/2 us cup dried rice (Basmati is best)

2 tsp Garam Masala (can be bought ready in asian markets e.g.)


1 tsp Cumin seeds


some salt


1/2 us cup frozen green peas


1 potatoe raw, cut in small bites


1 fresh tomato or one tin of whole peeled tomatoes with juice


Total 1 1/2 the volume of rice of water (when using Basmati rice). (less if canned tomatoes are used)


put the oil, like 1 tbsp in a pot. Add spices and then shortly after add the drained rice. Stir while frying. Soon there will come a lovely smell from the rice. Then add water and the remaining ingredients. Stir and let simmer on a low heat, til the potatoes are cooked and the rice also.


Raita:


1 small jar of natural yoghurt


some salt


1/2 tsp dried cilantro (koriander)


pinch of red chilli powder


mix together and let stand til rice is ready. Then add small cut cucumber and tomatoes and mix.


Serve with the rice. I double the Raita recipie as I really love it. Its a great healthy and dietary main dish
