9 - 10 large apples, peeled, cored and sliced
¾ cup sugar
2 tablespoons flour
1 teaspoon cinnamon
¼ teaspoon nutmeg
¼ teaspoon salt
1 cup flour
1 cup brown sugar
½ cup oats
½ cup butter, cut into 1 inch pieces

Preheat the oven to 375 degrees.

Spray a large casserole dish or a 9x13 inch glass dish with nonstick cooking spray.

Wash all the apples.

Begin peeling the apples using a peeler. (Recommend: over a trash can or a bowl.

Once all peeled, then core them. And begin slicing the apples about 2/4 or ¼ of an inch. (It really determines on you, but you don't want them too thin or they with just smush together).

Then, in a large bowl, combine the sliced apples, (¾) sugar, (2 tablespoons) flour, (1 teaspoon) cinnamon, (¼ teaspoon) nutmeg and (¼ teaspoon) salt.

Toss them till they are all coated.

Make sure that the pan is sprayed

Pour the apples and and spread them around using a spoon to make them all even.

Combine the flour, brown sugar and oats into a medium bowl.

Now add the butter pieces , with your fingers, and rub the butter into the mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs. (It will seem too dry, or that there isn't enough butter, but there is. Just keep mixed the butter in.)

Sprinkle the topping onto the apples till it's all covered.

Bake for 35 to 40 minutes or until the topping is crisp and golden and the inside is warm and bubbly.

Notes

This recipe is special to my family because before my grandma got dementia and couldn't take care of herself anymore, she'd make this all the time. It was her favorite. A physical change with the apples is when you slice them and the dry ingredients mixed together. A chemical change is the browning on top and the smell once it’s done baking.
