Why I Love This Recipe
This recipe came from my Finnish/ Dutch Great Grandma and was a guarded family secret 'till my ma gave it to the place she worked Phil's Ribs. Shame on her!!!
I use this for my western style barbecue ribs but I also really like it for pulled pork sandwiches too :) (where the pulled pork cooks in this sauce not just spooned over it!) This recipe can be used w/ pork, beef, chicken, wild game you name it. If you can barbecue it you need this sauce to do it in!
Pic of large barbecued rib w/ this sauce yumm!
*NOTE: This sauce is meant for the meat to be cooked in it not spooned over it!!! The meat flavors the sauce and the sauce flavors the meat! The sauce starts out thin but you cook it with your meat until it gets thick in your oven.
Ingredients You'll Need
4 med- Lg yellow cooking onions
Butter
1 32 oz bottle Heinz ketchup
1/4 cup Lemon juice
1/4 cup apple cider vinegar

couple handfuls brown sugar or to taste

Caramelize onions in butter (may have to do it in batches transferring each batch from frying pan to cooking pot)
Then add the remaining ingredients 1 at a time heating thoroughly after each addition.
Taste to see if u need more brown sugar then simmer for about 10 mins to blend all flavors
Pour over whatever your barbecuing and bake or grill :>)
