Why I Love This Recipe
This recipe screams Multi Cuisine. These make a great appetizer or main dish meal. Who doesn't like a good meatball? With this big twist this recipe is just jumping with flavor. I created this recipe for a party to serve as an appetizer. It was a huge hit with my multicultural friends, who were present.
Ingredients You'll Need
Meatball Mixture:
1/2 c bread crumbs
1 egg, beaten
1/4 cup milk
1/4 cup grated cheese
2 cloves garlic, chopped fine
2 tbs scallion, chopped fine
1/4 c cilantro, chopped fine
1 tsp African Spice blend
salt and pepper
1 lb ground turkey
fry oil (approx 1/2 cup)
Sauce:
12 oz chunky salsa
1/4 c brown sugar
1 cup sour cream
Directions
1. In large mixing bowl add crumbs, egg, milk, cheese, garlic, scallions, cilantro and spice blend. Mix well.
2. Add ground turkey. Fold to incorporate. Roll into golf size balls.
3. Heat large skillet (medium/high) with oil. Add meatballs, spacing about 1 inch apart. Fry until crispy. Flip and rotate meatballs to crisp completely. (approx 10-12 mins) Remove from skillet, cover.
4. In same skillet add salsa and brown sugar. Stir. Simmer (med/low) for approx. 10 minutes to deduce and thicken. Add meatballs to sauce, stir.
Garnish sour cream and fresh cilantro.
