Although it looks like an odd combo, this is a great recipe. The secret is the cheese and the pickles, they are a must!! It can also be made with ground turkey.

Note: I usually cut this recipe in half.


  • 3 pds ground round
  • 1 yellow onion
  • 1 cup diced celery
  • 2 cups catsup
  • ½ c. water
  • 3 T. vinegar
  • 1 T. sugar
  • 3 T. yellow mustard
  • 1/3 c. oatmeal


  • Brown onion, celery, and ground round. Drain. Mix together catsup, water, vinegar, mustard, sugar and oatmeal. Simmer 45-60 minutes until celery is soft. Best served on a whole wheat hamburger bun with a slice of cheddar cheese and a layer of snack-ems dill pickles. Makes great leftovers too!!
