Mom's Swiss Steak
1 & 1/2 lbs. of cube round steak
1 tsp. garlic powder
Salt and Pepper to taste
Flour for dusting the meat
1/3 cup of veg. oil
2 cloves of garlic (crushed)
1-14oz. can of diced tomatoes
1 med. onion (cut into strips)
1 med. bell pepper (cut into strips)
1-10oz. can of tomato paste
Season steaks with garlic powder, salt and pepper
Dust meat with flour
Brown in skillet with the veg. oil
Transfer to a Dutch oven
Combine garlic cloves,tomato, onion, bell pepper and paste
Pour over steaks and simmer over low heat till tender (45-50min).
You can add a pinch of sugar to tone down the tomatoes
This can also be cooked in the crockpot on low 4-6hrs.
Serve with rice or mashed potatoes
