Why I Love This Recipe
This is a hearty meal that is one of my family's favorites and is so easy to make!
Ingredients You'll Need
1 lb ground beef, 85% lean
1 onion, chopped
1/2 red bell pepper
1/2 green bell pepper
1 large can whole or diced tomatoes
1/2 small can tomato paste
2 Tbsp Chili seasoning mix (see my recipe for this on bakespace)
4 tsp chili powder
1 Tbsp crushed red pepper or 1/8 tsp cayenne
1 Tbsp garlic powder
1/2 tsp ground cumin
1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp tsp oregano
1/2 tsp ground black pepper
1/2 tsp cinnamon
2 cans kidney beans, drained & rinsed
1 cup water
Brown ground beef, add chopped onions and peppers to pan. You can use either red or green or a mixture of both. Saute for 5 minutes.
Add spices to meat and then add in the tomato paste and mix well.
Add canned tomatoes and water. If using whole tomatoes then cut them up a bit. I like the whole tomatoes because they are softer.
Simmer for 1-2 hours. Add beans about 1/2 hour before done.
Let cool for 10 minutes before serving.
Pairs Well With
Buns, cornbread or corn tortilla chips.
