MY GRANDMOTHER'S GINGERSNAPS

Ingredients

  • sift together
  • 2 cups flour
  • 2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp ginger
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 tsp cloves
  • cream together
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 3/4 cup shortening
  • then add
  • 1/4 cup molasses
  • 1 egg
  • add dry ingredients a little at a time

Directions

  • Drop by teaspoons into sugar, roll into small balls, place on cookie
  • sheet and bake.
  • Wait until they fall before removing from the baking sheet.
  • 350º 9-10 minutes

Notes

I use a generous measure of the spices and sometimes add small pieces

of candied ginger.

I also lightly spray the cookie sheet
