My mom's Shepard's Pie

Serves | Prep Time | Cook Time


1 lb. ground beef
carrots and peas (I use frozen veggies but you can cut up fresh ones if you want)
diced onion
seasoning, whatever you like on ground beef
splash of red wine
small can of tomato sauce if you like (not necessary though)
mashed potatoes (You can make it fresh, I usually use the boxed kind when in a rush)

Just brown the meat with the onion, season it as you like. Throw in veggies and tomato sauce and wine. Let it all simmer. Separately, make the mashed potatoes. After the meat has simmered for awhile (10-20 minutes) put it in a baking dish. Put the potatoes on top evenly (this is the tricky part). I like to make designs in the potatoes with a fork. Put in oven or broiler until potatoes are crispy and brown and serve.

I grew up on this stuff. It was one of the first things I learned to cook. It's really easy too. Sorry I don't have exact measurements. I usually just make it and see what looks right.
