ORANGE AND DATE SCONES

Serves Makes one dozen | Prep Time | Cook Time

Ingredients

½ stick butter
¼ cup sugar
1 egg white
Juice ½ orange
¾ cups flour
¼ tablespoon baking powder
¾ cups diced dates, optional
2 teaspoons orange peel, grated


Preheat oven to 425 degrees.


In mixing bowl, cream butter and sugar together with paddle. Add egg white and beat in orange juice. Add flour and baking powder. Stir in dates and orange peel. Place on board and place it in freezer so it is cold before rolling out. Shape dough and pat down. Cut into 1½ to 2 –inch rounds with small cookie cutter.


Place scones on parchment lined cookie sheet and bake for 7 minutes. Reduce temperature to 375 degrees and bake 3 minutes. Cool and cover with cool cloth. Place on plates. Serve and enjoy!
