OUr Favorite Christmas Morning Breakfast Toast
1/2 Cup of silvered Almonds
1/4 Cups of Sugar
3 Tablespoons of Softened Butter
3/4 Teaspoons of Almond Extract
1-2 Tablespoons of Cornstarch
1/8 Teaspoons of salt
1 Loaf Challah, Brioche or Dense Bread or Pound Cake
1 Jar your favorite Berry Jam or Preserves
1/2 Cups of Sliced Almonds
1/2 Cups of Confectioner Sugar
Preheat oven to 400 degrees. In a food process, blend 1/2 cup slivered almonds, sugar, egg, butter, almond extract, cornstarch and salt until creamy. The almond cream can be refrigerated until ready to use. Slice bread into thick slices, spread each slice with a tablespoon of jam or preserves, top with a generous amount of almond pastry cream and sprinkle with sliced almonds. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and place bread slices on parchment. Bake in 400 degree oven for approx. 15-20 minutes or until golden brown. Cool slightly and sprinkle with confections sugar. Serving = 2 slices.

Years ago, I saw a picture of decadent almond breakfast toast on a Italian Website, but no recipe! It was a creamy almond filling spread on top of your favorite dense bread. I researched similar and came up with my own ingredients. The results....a family hit that has become a Christmas tradition for Christmas morning with coffee.
