OATMEAL CARMELITAS

Ingredients

  • 32 caramels
  • 5 tablespoons light cream or evaporated milk
  • 1 cup flour
  • 1 cup quick-cooking rolled oats
  • 3/4 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup butter, melted
  • 6 ounces chocolate chips or milk chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup chopped pecans

Directions

  • Melt caramels in cream. Cool slightly. Combine remaining ingredients except
  • chips and nuts. Press half of crumbs into bottom of 11x7 pan. Bake at 350 for
  • 10 minutes. Remove from oven. Sprinkle with chips and nuts. Spread carefully
  • with caramel mixture. Sprinkle with remaining crumb mixture. Bake 15-20
  • minutes longer or until golden brown. Chill 1-2 hours.
