  • 1 C margarine/shortening
  • 1 C sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 5 T raisin water
  • 2 C flour
  • 1 t baking soda
  • 1 t salt
  • 1 t cinnamon
  • 1/2 t nutmeg
  • 2 C rolled oats
  • 1 C raisins
  • 2 C water
  • 1/2 C chopped nuts (optional)


  • In a small saucepan, combine raisins and water. Boil, simmer 5 minutes. Let cool and set aside 5 T of the water, drain the raisins.
  • In a large bowl, cream shortening and sugar. Add eggs and raisin water, mix well. Blend dry ingredients into creamed mixture. Add raisins (and nuts) and mix well.
  • Drop heaping teaspoonfuls on greased cookie sheets. Bake at 350 for 10-15 minutes. Cool on racks.


This came out of one of the "Aunt Dimity" mystery novels. It comes out nice and moist and soft and makes about 4 dozen.
