Pastitsio (pasta and ground beef casserole)

500 gr (1lbs) penne or rigatoni or bucatoni pasta
500 gr (1lbs)lean ground meat(beef)
4 tbs melted butter
1/2 c olive oil
1 bay leave
1 big onion chopped
2 cloves garlic, minced
1/2 c parsley chopped
1/2 c dry white wine
1 can diced tomatoes with juice (concasse)
1 tbs tomato paste
1 cinnamon stick ca 5 cm (2")
3 1/2 c grated cheese (kefalotiri, parmesan and pecorino) or one of them.
For bechamel sauce:
4 tbs bread crumbs
6 tbs butter
1/3 c flour
3 c milk
1/2 ts salt
1/8 ts pepper
1/4 ts nutmeg
3 eggs
salt and pepper to taste

Looking up in different cooking sites found to many recipes (over 250), to write here the origin, my version is the Greek one, however have to thank Evelyn from Athens because I used her great recipe for the translation...anyway there are really no big differences between the recipes.

I LOVE Pastitsio, and have made it before to take to Thanksgiving pitch-in, where I told all my rube cousins it was Greek lasagna and they DEVOURED it!
