This Southern classic favorite at the Thanksgiving table can always be made year-round as well.

One day I had 1/2 cup of Karo syrup and used 1/2 cup maple syrup. It added a new taste & it was good! I also have used dark Karo, it gives the pie a darker color.


  • 1 stick real butter (no margarine)
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 Cup white Karo syrup
  • 1 Cup sugar
  • 1 Cup pecans halves
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • Pinch of salt


  • Brown butter over medium heat (this is the secret of this pie).
  • Beat eggs well and add other ingredients. Mix well. Add pecans and pour into pastry shell.
  • Bake 10 minutes at 425 degrees. Reduce heat to 325-350 degrees and bake 40 minutes more.
  • Makes 1 pie
