PEPPERMINT PINWHEELS

Ingredients

  • 1 cup butter
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 1/2 tsp almond extract
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 2 1/2 cups flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp red food coloring
  • 1 egg white
  • 1 tbs water
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup crushed peppermint candy

Directions

  • Cream butter, add sugar gradually
  • Beat in egg and flavorings
  • Blend in dry ingredients
  • Divide dough in half
  • Mix food coloring into one half
  • Chill both halves until firm
  • Roll half of white dough into a 8 inch square
  • Roll half of red dough into a 8 inch square
  • Place white square on top of the red square and roll into a log
  • Repeat with remaing dough
  • Wrap each roll in waxed paper and chill overnight
  • Cut into 1/8 inch slices
  • Place on greased cookie sheet
  • Bake at 375 for 8-10 minutes
  • Mix egg white and water
  • Brush on hot cookies
  • Sprinkle with sugar and peppermint candy
