Peppermint Snowballs

Ingredients

2 cups butter, softened
1 cup powdered sugar, sifted
2 teaspoons vanilla
5 cups flour
FILLING
1 cup peppermint candies, finely crushed
1 1/2 cups powdered sugar, sifted
2 ounces cream cheese, softened
2 teaspoons milk
red food coloring


Beat butter, powdered sugar and vanilla with electric beater until smooth on low speed. Gradually beat in the flour. Chill for about 30 minutes or until firm. To make the filling, mix the crushed candy and 1/2 cup of the powdered sugar. Mix the cream cheese and milk until smooth. Stir in the remaining 1 cup powdered sugar. 6 tablespoons of the candy mixture and 2 drops of red food color. Heat oven to 350 degrees. Have baking sheets ready. Roll the dough into 1 inch balls. Place about 2 inches apart on the baking sheets. Make a deep hole in the center of each using fingertip or handle of wooden spoon. Fill each hold with 1/4 teaspoon of theh filling. Bake for about 12014 minutes until set but not brown.
