Potassium is one of your body's most important electrolytes. The minerals in your blood, sweat, and bodily fluids, which contain an electric charge affect how your body functions. When hitting the gym, be especially careful about your potassium intake because low levels can reduce your energy and endurance and also cause muscle cramping and cardiovascular issues. Potassium is depleted as you sweat during exercise, so make sure to include high-potassium foods in your diet.

This smoothie is filled with potassium-rich kiwifruit, banana and orange juice for a delicious pre- or post-workout snack that has numerous benefits for your body. But if you're running out the door and don't have time to use the blender, grab a kiwifruit to go for a quick and easy dose of potassium.
