4 large potatoes
1 tablespoon salt
3 cups sifted flour (more or less for proper consistency)
Grate potatoes and onion. Add egg and salt; add flour until it reaches the proper consistency (should not fall apart when frying -- if it does, add more flour). Shape into small pancakes and fry both sides in oil on hot griddle.

I got this recipe from my mom who got it from her mom before she died. My grandmother never wrote recipes down (as far as I know), so this is one of the few ones we have from her.
