INGREDIENTS
- Cooking Time: 50-65 minutes
- Servings: 8-10
- Preparation Time: 25 minutes
- 1 (15-ounce) package refrigerated piecrusts (I made my own)
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 6 cups peeled and sliced tart baking apples
- 2 tablespoons butter, cut up
- Topping:
- 1/4 cup butter
- 1/2 cup firmly packed light brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons whipping cream
- 1/2 cup chopped pecans
DIRECTIONS
Fit 1 piecrust into a 9-inch pie plate according to package directions.
Stir together sugar, flour, and cinnamon. Stir in apples; spoon mixture into crust. Dot with 2 tablespoons butter. Top with remaining piecrust; fold edges under, and crimp. Cut several slits in top.
Bake pie at 350° for 50-65 minutes, shielding with aluminum foil, if needed, to prevent excessive browning. Remove from oven.
Melt 1/4 cup butter in a small saucepan; stir in brown sugar and whipping cream. Bring to a boil over medium heat, stirring constantly; cook 1 minute, and remove from heat. Stir in pecans, and let stand 5 minutes. Slowly drizzle mixture over pie. Bake for an additional 5 minutes.
RECIPE BACKSTORY
The D.J. on a local radio station was bragging about his wife's apple pie, so his listeners wanted him to post the recipe. Well, apparently his wife is, in his words, "a recipe tightwad" and he had to bribe her in order to post it and then it could only be posted for 24 hours....wierd. It is a pretty tasty pie, though. Southern Living magazine has a very similar recipe
