Why I Love This Recipe

I love this cookie as a base for various toppings such as ice cream or chocolate.

Ingredients You'll Need

1/2 c. butter flavor shortening
1 c. powdered sugar
1/2 tsp. vanilla
1/4 tsp. salt
2 tbsp. beaten eggs
1/2 tsp. baking soda
2 tbsp. buttermilk
1 1/2 c. all-purpose flour
1/8 tsp. baking powder


In a large bowl, cream together shortening, sugar, vanilla and salt.

Add the egg and mix until fluffy.

Add the baking soda and mix for about 20 seconds, then add the buttermilk and mix for an additional 30 seconds.

In another bowl, combine the flour and baking powder.

Add dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and mix well until flour is completely incorporated.

Roll the dough into a ball and refrigerate for an hour.

Preheat the oven to 325.

On a well floured surface, roll the dough out to a 1/8" thick and punch out cookies with your favorite cutter.

Arrange cookies on an ungreased cookies sheet.

Bake for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown.
