Why I Love This Recipe

For those of you who are not familiar with the Hawaiian language you might wonder what poke means...it means to slice or to cut into small bite-size pieces, also refers to a traditional Hawaiian dish of raw seafood. This poke is made with a'u (Pacific Blue Marlin Sailfish).

Ingredients You'll Need

3 pounds a'u fillet
3/4 cup shoyu (can also use low sodium soy sauce)
1 teaspoon chili pepper flakes
1 tablespoon sesame seeds
1 tablespoon sesame oil
3/4 cup chopped green onions
1 medium round onion, sliced thinly

Directions

Cut a'u fillet into strips then into 3/4 inch poke. Combine shoyu, pepper, sesame seeds, sesame oil, green and round onions; add poke a'u. Mix well. Serve chilled.

This and many other authentic Hawaiian recipes you can find in EHo'olako Mau by Tamar Luke Pane'e. In fact this is the only cookbook in our collection which has been autographed by the author.
