Simple Bread Pudding
1/2 loaf stale bread (I like french bread for this)
Butter to cover each slice on both sides
1 cup raisins (I like california green organic)
1/2 cup brown sugar
2 cups milk or 1 cup milk & 1 cup heavy cream
Butter sliced Bread and layer in a deep buttered baking dish with raisins and brown sugar.
Beat together milk and eggs until frothy then pour over bread. Bake at 350 degrees for about an hour or until custard is set and the tops of bread are slightly browned.
Sprinkle with nutmeg and top with whipped cream if you want.
