Southern Apple Pie

8-10 Gala Apples
1 1/2 - 2 cups white sugar
¼ cup brown sugar
2 tspn cinnamon (more to taste)
1 tspn nutmeg
2 Tbspn flour
1 tspn cornstarch
1 Tbspn lemon juice
2 Tbspn melted butter

2 Cups flour
1 cup shortening
2 Tbspn butter
1 tspn salt
1 tspn sugar

Preparing Crust:

Combine flour, salt and sugar. Mash in shortening and butter until the mixture is crumbly. Fold in water until dough is sticky.

Wrap in plastic wrap and let sit in refrigerator at least 30 minutes.

Roll dough on floured surface and cover bottom of baking pan with dough. Use remaining scraps for lattice top.

Pie Filling:

Peel and core apples, and cover with lemon juice to keep them white. Mix dry ingredients in separate bowl. Fold in apples. Pour mixture into pie pan and cover with dough strips. Brush crust with melted butter.

Bake 45min – 1hour at 375 degrees.
