Southern Fried Pork Chops

Serve with butter beans, mashed taters, gravy and corn bread, with nanner puding & iced tea with lemon!

  • 4 pork chops
  • 1/2 cup all purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon seasoning salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon thyme (optional for heat)
  • 1/8 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 cups shortening for frying

DIRECTIONS

In large skillet, heat shortening until shimmering but not smoking, about 350 F. Wash pork chops and pat dry.


Mix flour, salt and pepper together. Coat chops in flour mixture until completely covered.


Place chops in skillet and fry until golden brown for 20 minutes. Do not overcook. Drain on paper towels

This is a delicious recipe. If what you're looking for is home cooking southern food (which I'm always looking for) then this is the recipe for you.

Made this for dinner tonight for the child that doesn't like fish (the rest of us had baked cod). I made two chops so we could all try it, however, and it was great. This recipe is super easy and it is true comfort food. Authentic, yummy southern cooking at its finest. A+ recipe! :)

Oh, and I used a cup of olive oil instead of shortening. Worked just fine.
