  • 2 cups long grain white rice
  • 1/4 cup canola oil
  • 1/2 white onion, grated
  • 3 cloves of garlic pressed in a garlic press
  • 3/4 cup tomato sauce
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 3 cup chicken broth


  • In a 12 frying pan, with a tight fitting lid
  • Add oil and heat on meduim high
  • Add rice and saute until golden brown (10 minutes)
  • Keep stirring
  • Add onion and saute 4 minutes
  • Add garlic and saute for 1 minute
  • Add tomato sauce, chicken broth, and salt
  • Stir over high to a boil while stirring
  • Reduce to low
  • Cover and simmer 20 minutes
  • Don't open lid
  • When done, turn off heat . stir and serve


I have tried many rice recipes. This one I put together from other recipes. It has great flavor. Great with my enchilada recipe.
